it's been said that the saddest thing a man will ever face is what might have been ? but what of the man who's faced with what was? or what may never be? or what can no longer be? choosing the right path is never easy. it's a decision we make with only our hearts to guide us. but sometimes we find our way to something better. sometimes we fight through the regret and remorse of our mistakes, our malice and our jealously and the shame we feel for not being the people we were meant to be. and that's when we find our way to something better or something better finds its way to us.
it's all about choosing the path, and how do we know if that is the right one... we don't. we just have to have faith that the journey we are on is going to lead us the right way, the way to a place that is better than where we are now. and even when life sucks and you don't feel like you can get up the next morning, the beauty is that you can, and that you will be rewarded through that. if it is through a smile, or a hug or just the beauty of something so simple, yet you have never noticed! it is amazing what can happen when we just decide with our whole hearts to see the world through a different angle, or through someone else's eyes.
i think that the possibility of what might have been is the hardest thing to fathom. it is hard to look back on something and see the different ways it could have gone, and have regret, or sorrow over those things. it is better, i believe to have faith in the fact that those things went a certain way for a reason, and to believe that the what might have beens, are simply that, and they are not missed opportunities, but better doors opening. they are not simply us making mistakes, or bad decisions, but they are the proof that we have grown and changed throughout life. that we have learned to choose correctly and better. at least that is what should happen as we go through life.
someone great told me once to learn from other peoples mistakes, because we don't live long enough to make them for ourselves. i believe in this whole heartedly. i have learned a great many lessons from people who understand life just so much better than i do. they are great people who show us how to have faith, hope, grieve, celebrate, understand, be humble, love, trust and believe.
i am proud to say that in my life i have very few regrets, that i understand the weight of decisions, and that i have surrounded myself with people that i look up to for different reasons in every one, and i hope and aspire to someday be someone that they can return the admiration in, because i do not believe i am there yet, but God almighty is working long and hard hours on me. trying to get me to the place that i will be most fulfilled, most happy and most creative.
i wonder if this makes sense, i sometimes ramble. but i love the thought that like my blog is titled, we have the ability to take the tide, and i think that i am getting prepped to take the tide that will be rising before me, and my greatest wish is to be able to take it when it serves.
